Election for the 2019 - 2020 NZBA Bar Council

The nominations for Council for the 2019-2020 term, which commences on 1 October 2019, have been received. The NZBA encourages all full members who are eligible to vote to do so.

As permitted by the NZBA Rules, the Association is once again holding an electronic online election for all those members who have supplied an email address. Any member who has opted out of electronic communication will receive voting papers by post.

If you are eligible to vote, voting instructions will have been emailed to you. Please read the information on eligibility below.

Candidates and Places

There are twelve (12) candidates standing in the Auckland and Canterbury regions for FIVE (5) places. An election is required in respect of the candidates who are standing in these regions.

The personal statements of the candidates can be found here.

As we have received the same number of nominations as there are available places for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Otago/Southland regions and for the Associate Member representative and President-Elect positions, an election is not required for those places.

Please also note that while this election is being held to elect members in the Auckland and Canterbury regions, full members for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Otago/Southland regions are also entitled to vote for these candidates.

Closing date

The ballot closes at 5.00pm on Wednesday 31 July 2019. All votes (including hardcopy votes) must have been received by this time.

Eligibility to vote

Please note that to be entitled to vote you must:

  1. be a full member; and
