Te Wiki o te Reo Māori
Always wanted to learn another language? How about trying one that is indigenous to Aotearoa New Zealand? Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week is the annual campaign led by the Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (The Māori Language Commission) to get more New Zealanders speaking, hearing, and experiencing te reo Māori. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving it a go! Over one million New Zealanders of all ethnicities are joining in.
Most of us will never achieve fluency but we can handle a few phrases such as mā te wā (see you later, bye for now) or mōrena (good morning). Download the Māori Phrase card and give it a go. How about ordering coffee/kawhe in Māori? This is your chance to teach your favourite cafe to incorporate te reo. Take a look at the coffee/kawhe card and instead of ordering a soy latte, order a rate pīni.
There are lots more resources on the Te Wiki o te Reo Māori website. You don't have to learn everything or indeed anything, but it would be a shame to miss out!
