Presented by Clive Elliott QC, Jonathan Eaton QC and Simon Ladd (Bell Gully) and chaired by Lara Mannis (NZBA Junior Representative), this webinar gives practical advice on what senior counsel look for in their junior, and what juniors should expect of senior counsel. This webinar will outline:

  • Training and developing opportunities to practice skills
  • Managing senior counsel’s expectations
  • How to handle difficult conversations

The Presenters:

Clive Elliott QC is a registered patent attorney, barrister and arbitrator who practises at Shortland Chambers in Auckland. Prior to joining the Independent Bar, Clive was a partner and headed the litigation team at Baldwin Shelston Waters. He took Silk in 2013. Clive is the President of the New Zealand Bar Association | Ngā Ahorangi Motuhake o te Ture. He has been working with members of the Junior Bar to promote their interests and ensure that training is available to them
Jonathan Eaton QC joined the independent bar in 1998 after 12 years’ practice in general litigation and as a senior prosecutor. Since joining the independent bar Jonathan has established himself as a leading specialist in criminal jury trial and appellate litigation. Jonathan was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 2013. As Vice President of the New Zealand Bar Association | Ngā Ahorangi Motuhake o te Ture, Jonathan has also been active in supporting the Junior Bar, including speaking recently on what makes a perfect junior at a Juniors’ drinks function in Auckland.
Simon Ladd is a partner at Bell Gully. He has particular experience in competition investigations and proceedings, property and construction disputes, and insurance law. He has acted in many of the leading Commerce Commission cartel investigations and court proceedings over the last decade, including the timber preservative chemicals, packaging, gas insulated switchgear, air cargo, freight forwarding, and real estate investigations.
Lara Mannis (Chair) joined Richmond Chambers in February 2016 after three years in the litigation department of a major Auckland firm. She has experience working on a wide range of general commercial disputes, including construction, property, contractual and insurance matters. Lara is a Junior Representative on the NZBA Council and sits on the NZBA Training Committee.

A refund less a service fee of $25.00 will apply to all cancellations (received in writing) before midday Friday 19 May 2017. There will be no refunds for cancellations received after that time. The NZBA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule seminars if necessary.
