The New Zealand Bar Association | Ngā Ahorangi Motuhake o te Ture will be hosting its annual conference at Trinity Wharf Hotel, Tauranga on 16-17 September 2022.  Our conference website is now live.

This is an exciting time for the legal profession, with significant changes ahead.  Our conference is designed to provide some insight into these developments.

The judiciary is leading the way with its learnings about tikanga Māori, and recent case law has signalled the development of a unique jurisprudence for Aotearoa/New Zealand. The conference will help members to catch up with these changes. Meantime, if we have learnt nothing else from 2020-2021, the value or scientific advancement has been reinforced. But how far can we rely on novel science in criminal cases?  Should we suspend basic principles of law for the good of the many? What is an advocate’s role when faced with extraordinary times and situations, such as pandemics and the dangers of climate change?

We look forward to you joining our panellists as they address these topics. We are building time into our sessions so that we can hear your thoughts and look forward to an exchange of ideas and opinions.

Our conference is extremely collegial, with opportunities to network and gather at social events on both conference days. The conference venue is stunning, being Trinity Wharf Hotel, a stunning waterfront hotel built on three piers that stretch over the water’s edge. There are panoramic water views that bring the tranquil elements of the outside world indoors.

Conference Overview:

A mihi whakatau will be followed by kai (morning tea). Formal sessions include:
