Judicial Appointment - Hon. Justice Jonathan Eaton
The office of the Chief Justice have advised the appointment to the High Court Bench, of Hon. Justice Jonthan Eaton. The swearing in ceremony will be held in Christhchurch at 4.00pm on Friday 22 October 2021.
Members of the NZBA are invited to attend this swearing in ceremony.
Justice Eaton will be sworn in at a ceremony at 4pm on Friday 22 October 2021 in Christchurch (courtroom 12)
Please arrive 15 minutes early for seating purposes.

It is with a great pleasure, and indeed pride, that we congratulate the newly appointed High Court Judge, Justice Jonathan Eaton. The media release relating to his Honour’s appointment can be read here.
Justice Eaton has been a long time member of the Bar Association and has served on its Council over several years, taking a leading role as a Vice-President. The Judge has brought clarity of thought to many highly difficult and complex issues, and spoken for the Association on several significant matters. Although we have missed his presence at the Council table over the last year, he has continued to lead our Criminal Committee in its very intensive work programme.
I am sure our members will join me in wishing his Honour well in his future career on the Bench. Justice Eaton will sit in Christchurch.
